Tendulkar sanctions 40 lakh for Kupwara School

KUPWARA, Mar 29: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has sanctioned over Rs 40 lakh from the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund for construction of a school building in Kupwara district.
According to reports, Imperial Educational Institute (IEI) Drugmulla, was established in 2007 and happens to be the only school in the locality. It currently has 1000 students studying in classes one to ten.
The works requested by Tendulkar include construction of a school building with 10 class rooms, four laboratories, adminstrative block, six toilets and an assembly/prayer hall, said reports.
Tendulkar, as a member of Rajya Sabha, also sanctioned funds for construction and upgradation of classrooms of the school, located in Sewri, south Mumbai.
Through MPLAD, the former cricketer has sanctioned 7.4 cr funds for around 20 projects of schools and educational institutes covering the areas of West Medinapur in West Bengal, Nellore District in Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai, Solapur and Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, Kasargod in Kerala, Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, Pathanamthitta, Palakkad in Kerala.
Principal of Imperial Educational Institute (IEI) Drugmulla, Ghulam Mohammad while talking to Early Times said that, there are many private schools in the district which are charging high admission fees, and this year we have done free admissions of students in our school.
"Chail Pati adjacent to Anderhama Drugmulla is a small hamlet of Gujjar Community where from the people couldn't afford to take admission of their wards in any of the private schools, but this year we gave them admissions free of cost, said Chairman and Principal of IEI, Ghulam Mohammad.
He said that, 'we are lacking of infrastructure, including school building, science laboratory, library and other educational issues pertaining to students.
There is a co-education from nursery to class 10 while as we have an enrolment of 530-550 students in this school; there are forty teaching members and 15 non teaching faculty members who are taking care of these students, principal added.
GM said that "one month back, we called a meeting of all teaching and non teaching members and discussed various issues pertaining to students and other educational issues, and in the meanwhile we sent a message to Cricket Icon, Sachin Tandulkar for some financial assistance adding, however, today we came to know through social media that some financial assistance has been given by star cricketer for which we are highly thankful.
