S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report TANGMARAG, Apr 8: Setting another example of communal harmony, people belonging to the Muslim community, performed the last rites of a Pandit woman, in Tangmarg on Sunday. According to local residents of Karhama, a Pandit woman Dulari Begum 85, wife of Narenjen Nath resident of Wussan Karhama village in Tangmarg area, died on Sunday. As the news about her death spread in the nearby areas, hundreds of Muslims both men and women rushed to the house of the deceased woman to express condolences with the bereaved family, Syed Mushtaq Ahmad from Tangmarag told early times over the phone. He said that the Muslim men participated in all the last rites of the Pandit woman. They took her body to the cremation ground and helped the family arrange for everything required to perform her last rites as per Hindu rituals. Muslim women were also seen consoling with the wailing females of the family and relatives during the last rites of the deceased pandit woman. According to the locals, Dulari Begum had decided to stay back in Kashmir valley with their Muslim brethren during the tumultuous years of 90's when all the Pandits were leaving the region due to militancy. "Various Pandits families were living in different villages of Tangmarag area, but with the rise of militancy and other threats they left this valley which is badly missed by the Muslim breather, said locals, and added their tradition and cultural ethos was highly impressive among other communities. They said that, we appeal the government to make some substantial arrangements and a good environment so that our Pandit breather can return to their native places in Kashmir valley. |
