Illegal mining threatens under construction Kathua bridge | Govt to take action against mining officers | | Early Times Report Kathua, Apr 7: Mining near a under construction bridge has posed a threat to it and raised many brows. Sources said it has been a cause of concern for R&B authorities as well as for the district administration which has taken immediate steps for damage control. Sources said that there was a lot of public outcry In the area against the illegal mining in the area printing district administration to impose ban and recommend action against erring mining officers. Even the DC Pathankot Punjab had written a letter to DC Kathua that mining officer Kathua was issuing slips to tippers for extracting sand, Bajri etc from river Ravi. The people in Kerrian Gandyal are very perturbed as the water level in the area has depleted 150 feet below and they are facing severe water crisis. Moreover illegal mining has also affected flora and fauna of the area. Sources said following the recommendations of district administration, the State Government is going to take punitive action against mining officers for their omissions and commissions posing threat to structures like Bridges, buildings , pumpsheds etc. Sources said at various places the mine mafia has purchased the Agriculture land allotted under Roshni Act to some people and started extracting sand and Bajri from there by destroying standing crops. The district administration has retrieved five kanals of land yesterday and warned action to mafia active in area. |
