Education system in doldrums, General Rawat's stand vindicated
4/24/2018 11:52:55 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 24: The unrelenting student protests in Kashmir have put the Jammu and Kashmir government in a tight spot as a few elements seem to be hell bent upon turning Kashmir into Afghanistan.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Army Chief General Bipin Rawat had warned J&K government about the flawed Education system earlier this year. He had asked the state government to see what's wrong where."
He said that after Army Chief's statement a few PDP leaders had reacted sharply and asked him not to interfere in the education set up in the Valley. "The assessment of the Army Chief has proved to be correct. Students protesting on the streets of Kashmir are an indication that a few elements are working overtime to instigate them and put them on a wrong path," he added.
He said that Jammu and Kashmir government has failed to contain the student protests and is running short of ideas. "Closing down coaching centers for three months is not going to serve any purpose. The epicenters of student protests are colleges and higher secondary schools not the coaching centers and closing down educational institutions is no solution," he added.
An observer said that state government and security agencies need to identify the radical elements and the ones who are spreading hatred against India, and are vitiating the minds of the students. "There were even inputs about a few teachers instigating the students and polluting their minds. The government should identify such teachers and act against them," he added.
A politician said that Jammu and Kashmir government especially the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party have a problem. "If nationalist people say something they oppose it outrightly. PDP leaders should open their eyes and look for solutions rather than just opposing the ideas and the suggestions which are forwarded to them," he added.
An official said, "In 2017 also Jammu and Kashmir government had to close down the schools and colleges off and on. Now in 2018 the state government is again facing the same problems."
He said, "Police and other security agencies know it very well that who the trouble mongers are, but these people are not being allowed to act against them due to political interference. If Jammu and Kashmir government wants schools and colleges to function smoothly it would gave to address the cause and look for a long term solution. Short term solutions are not going to work."
The politician said that PDP led government should come out from the denial mode and accept the ground realities. "It's becoming evident with each passing day that a few people want to turn Kashmir into Afghanistan and Education sector has apparently become the first target," he added.
