CASO launched in Sopore, Hajin as presence of militants spotted in areas | | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
BANDIPORA, May 1: Joint forces cordoned off today in twin areas of North Kashmir including Chankhan Sopore and Shahgund Hajin following input about presence of 2-3 militants in the area. Reports said that army men boarding a civilian vehicle reached Rahimgund mohalla of Shahgund when two militants were coming out of a mosque around 2 pm. A cordon-and-search-operation was launched in Shahgund area of Hajin in north Kashmir's Bandipora district after militants exchanged fire with the army. They said that the militants fired at the army men, who retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of fire. The militants escaped from the spot, but more forces were rushed to the area and a search operation is underway, said an official. Sources told ET that following the firing exchange, shopkeepers lowered their shutters and traffic disappeared from the roads, adding mobile Internet service was also snapped in the area. Meanwhile forces on Tuesday evening launched search operation in Chankhan area of Sopore in northern region of Kashmir. Initial reports said that forces including Army's 52 RR, Sopore Police and CRPF sealed Chankhan area of Sopore after inputs of militant's movement in the area. Sources said that door to door search was carried in the area, while as public movement also affected after forces sealed area. A top police official said that search operation was launched after information of militants in the area, adding CASO has been called off peacefully. |
