Education higher ups list reasons for poor performance in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, May 21: Shortage of teaching staff, non-cooperation of parents, lack of inadequate infrastructure and frequent closure of government schools due to cross border firing/shelling were some reasons pointed out by the principals and headmasters of government schools in a meeting chaired by Additional DC (ADC) at Rajouri recently. The meeting was attended by the principals/headmasters of the schools which have recorded below 20 percent results for 10th and 12th classes declared recently by BOSE. Out of 20 higher secondary schools (HSSs) having below 20 percent results for 12th class in Jammu province, 13 (total 37) schools are situated in Rajouri district while 34 schools out of 114 have below 2 percent result for 10th class and 11 schools have recorded 0 percent result. The excuse by the principals/ headmasters for poor performance by the government schools due to cross border shelling (frequent closing of the schools) was endorsed in the meeting and Chief Education Officer (CEO) was directed to lay special focus on the under-performing schools and conduct extra classes during summer vacations by deputing subject teachers. "If one goes through the list only two HSSs namely at Kalsian and Bhawani (both in Nowshera) are situated in the shelling range and they too have 37 & 38 percent results. Boys HSS and Girls HSS (model school) situated in Rajouri town have shown 23 & 20 percent result despite highly qualified and adequate teaching staff," said sources. Except four HSSs namely Girls HSS at Nowshera (63 percent), at Lamberi (71 percent) Seri (76 percent), Solki (58 percent) none other school out of 34 has crossed 50 percent result in 12th class. Similarly in 10th class out of 11 high school situated in Nowshera near Line of Control (LoC) only two schools namely at Kundal and Hanjana all others having above 20 percent results. So the claim that shelling has affected the performance of government schools is totally baseless and just an excuse to hide poor performance/ administration (by the heads of the institute). "Attachments of teachers on political/other grounds near towns/in the schools of their choices, inadequate infrastructure, irresponsible attitude of the teachers towards their legitimate duties, engagements of teachers for official works in the offices of ZEOs/ CEO and field duties are among major reasons for poor performance of the government schools in Rajouri district," said S. Khan social activist. "Directorate of Education) has already delayed by two months government order No: 452 dated 28/3/2018 under which promoted newly appointed Lecturers were directed to report to concerned Directorates within 21 days for their further appointments" said Saleem Naz. |
