DDB meeting: MLA Udhampur corners govt over regional discrimination, D N Bhagat also raises voice

UDHAMPUR, May 21: Putting the coalition government in an embarrassing situation, the MLA Udhampur launched a blistering attack on the dispensation here today during the District Development Board (DDB) meeting.
MLA Pawan Gupta while cornering the state government on regional discrimination with Jammu region said that meager allotment of funds to Horticulture, Agriculture and other sectors in Jammu region as compared to those in Kashmir is testimony to the discriminatory attitude of the government.
"Director Horticulture Jammu gets Rs 50 crore while his counterpart in Srinagar gets Rs 472 crore, Jammu University gets Rs 40 crore while that of Kashmir gets Rs 60 crore, SKUAST-Kashmir gets Rs 165 crore while SKUAST-Jammu just Rs 60 crore," pointed MLA Udhampur. He also expressed resentment against the government over denial of additionalities to Jammu region.
"We pay Rs 2200 crore as tax while Kashmir pays only Rs 1100 crore tax, still Kashmir enjoys sufficient additionalities," Gupta said.
"I cannot be cowed down by the party dictates like these people," he said pointing towards BJP MLAs R S Pathania Dina Nath Bhagat, representing Ramnagar and Chenani assembly constituencies respectively, who were also present in the meeting.
Forest Minister, Rajiv Jasrotia who was chairing the meeting tried to pacify Gupta but he (Gupta) paid no heed and said that he will also raise the issue of discrimination with Jammu on the floor of Assembly and take it to the people of entire Jammu region.
After Udhampur MLA's outbursts, it was the turn of Chenani MLA who also lashed out at the coalition saying that the BJP-PDP government is working against the interests of Udhampur. He further said that even hand-pumps are not sanctioned on the demands. He also said that government is treating Udhampur in a step-motherly manner and the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in her entire tenure has never visited here as if Udhampur is not a part of J&K.
