Seri Khawaja people stages protest

POONCH, May 21: Inhabitants of Seri Khawaja, Seri Chouhana, Nehrian, Medana today held a strong protest demonstration near Medana and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway for more than two hours, in demand of Seri Khawaja high school upto higher secondary school level.
Demonstrators were raising strong slogans against state government, local legislator and education department and said, this school was established in 1952 and upgraded upto high school in 1973.
They said, former governments have twice announced the said school and HSS once during PDP-Congress and then during NC-Congress governance. Later SDM Surankote, SDPO Surankote, SHO Surankote and Assistance Director Planning department of education Poonch came on the spot and assured the demonstrators to fulfill their demand at priority basis.
AD planning on behalf of education department gave written assurance to the demonstrators and SDM Surankote on behalf of Deputy Commissioner Poonch Mr Mohammed Aijaz Asad assured the people to fulfill their genuine demands and to provide said HSS in final list of upgradation list.
The protest was lead by Sarpanch Mohd Din Malik, Sarpanch Mashooq Khawaja and chairman Jammu and Kashmir Insaaf Movement Javid Reshi where district Gen secretary of the movement Farooq Lone, Provincial president of Insaaf Movement Students Union (IMSU), Akbar Malik, Javid Rathar, Abrar Rather, Ghulam Mohd Khawaja, Firdose Khawaja, Mukhtar Malik, Bilal Khan, Manzoor Malik,Molvi Mushtaq, Iqbal Malik, Shehnaz Malik, Ashfaq Malik and many other locals and students of high school Seri Khawaja were present who allegedly said, government has deliberately ignored the area since independence which is condemnable.
