BANDIPORA, June 4: Complaints of malpractices and corruption have been levelled against Municipal Corporation Hajin in north Kashmir's Bandipora district. The money that was sanctioned for construction of drains, shops, lavatory blocks and other related work was not utilized in a proper way, it's alleged. Reliable sources said that many corruption cases are still pending in MC Hajin as the illegal appointments were made from time to time, but so for no action whatsoever was taken by the higher authorities. "In 2011-12 some illegal appointments and promotions were made in the MC after which a high enquiry team was constituted to probe the matter thoroughly. However, after conducting enquiry, some employees were transferred to other MCs," the sources said. They said that among various corrupt officials, only two were treated as 'deadwood', while the fact is that there are many officials whose credentials are tainted. "As they have not been touched yet, they continue their corrupt practices, causing loss to the exchequer," said the sources. "One can understand that due to political sycophants many big fishes in the department concerned are not touched. Otherwise if their track records will be put on check and balance system, their misdeeds will come to the fore," the sources added. They maintained that accountability and transparency slogans of government have proved to be hoax as some tainted officers are still enjoying the patronage of some political bosses and that is why they have not been yet declared as 'deadwood' from the law enforcing agencies or department concerned. |
