Recorded conversation exposes nexus between police-bovine smugglers | | | K.Koushal/Arun Jasrotia
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 4: A recorded conversation between a police official and a bovine smuggler who has given away the business has exposed the 'dirty' business of bovine smuggling in Jammu. Losing hope from senior police officers, the person who has left this business is seeking support from a police official for crackdown on the smugglers. He also stated that he will provide him with the timings of the movement of bovine smugglers. In an almost eight minute conversation, a bovine smuggler (name withheld) informed a police official about involvement of police officers and other officials in facilitating bovine smuggling from Jammu to Kashmir. The smuggler in past rooted out the nexus between the bovine smugglers and police officials especially Station House Officers (SHO) posted along National Highway. "The person who left the business also informed the police official about the transportation of bovines but also stated that police would not take action as they are hand in glove in the trade", said the bovine smuggler. He also pointed out that a particular station house officer of a police station on National Highway in Jammu district charges Rs 10,000 to 12,000 for a vehicle loaded with bovines and at an average more than 60 heavy vehicles and 40 to 45 light vehicles crossed from that jurisdiction per day. "The ex-smuggler also pointed out that some senior officials have showed their negligence in the matter", adding that may be owing to the reason that they must have involvement in the trade. Sources said that a Station House Officer (SHO) cannot dare to indulge into this business without green signal from his seniors. |
