DIG's post vacant for last six months | | | Ashwani Sharma
Early times report
Udhampur, June 4: While the revered Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is about to start this very month, the coveted post of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG)-Udhampur-Reasi range is lying vacant for the last six months. Clearly knowing that the pilgrimage is very much prone to terror attacks, the authorities concerned have failed to fill the post. Six months back DIG Varinder Sharma retired from the post on December 31 last year after attaining the age of superannuation. After that SSP Udhampur held the additional charge as DIG Udhampur--Reasi range but now SSP Reasi is holding the additional charge of DIG Locals are expressing concern over the delay in appointment of the DIG as there are threat perceptions for the revered Amarnath Ji Yarta. It is pertinent to mention here that few years back Udhampur saw a terrorist attack on a bus carrying BSF personnel and the locals there had caught one of the terrorist alive and he was of Pakistani origin. Every year the government makes elaborate security arrangements for the Amarnath Ji Yatra in which devotees from across the country visit Kashmir to pay obeisance at the natural Icelingam. The Yatra mostly runs for 45-60 days and of importance for Hindus. Can an important area be left without head? |
