Early Times Report
Udhampur, June 20: The residents of Udhampur are under a grave threat of falling prey to waterborne disease as contaminated water is being supplied to the town and its adjoining areas by the PHE department. Kalu a resident of village Phangial showed Early Times the dirty water he collected from his tap. It was muddy with suspended impurities in it. Similar is the situation at other places like Ban, Battle Ballian, Nagrota, Kaller etc to name a few. Sources in the health department have warned that such contaminated water may result in outbreak of some epidemic in the area. With some houses in urban areas of Udhampur having installed water purifiers, others are exposed to risk. Social activist, Ramesh Prashad informed that the public is not supposed to consume substandard water while they pay bills for the same. He said that public has a right to get clean drinking water and if there is some fault in the delivering pipes the PHE authorities should rectify it. Another local Bimla Devi said already there is poor water supply and if any water comes to taps it is not fit to consume. The locals have appealed to the concerned authorities and specially for DC Udhampur Ravinder please look into the matter and solve the problem of poor and needed peoples who were depend on tab water supplies. |
