This minister refused to leave his chair till late evening | Lust for power! | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 20: On June 19, when the coalition fell apart and all the ministers including the chief minister left the Civil Secretariat, one PDP minister was deeming it all as fake news and he remained seated at the office till 4.30 in the evening. The news about BJP pulling out the support came at about 2.15 pm and by 2.45 pm the ministers including the CM Mehboba Mufti left the Secretariat. However, one minister who was recently inducted in the cabinet was confused and in a fix when he was told by his personal assistant that it was all over. This minister (former) in question refused to leave his office and even didn't believe that the news was true at all. "All tried to tell him that the government no longer exists, but there was a blank expression on his face and at the same time he was adamant not to leave the office. So much was he in love with the chair that he didn't want to separate himself from it at any cost," says an official privy to the development. He added that the minister kept telling his staff that this all is false and fabricated news as the BJP cannot pull out the support like this and it would have at least consulted the PDP before taking any such action. "He kept saying that the BJP will issue the clarification of the news and that the government wouldn't fall at all. Then his staff told him that all the ministers of the PDP including the CM have left the office and his remaining in his chamber carries no meaning," the official said. It was informed further that at 4 pm the minister finally felt that something somewhere has gone terribly wrong and then he called the private office of the CM that informed him in return that the CM has rushed to Raj Bhawan to submit her resignation. "So it's all over and we are no longer in power and I am no longer a minister in the government," the minister asked and no came the reply, an official privy to the development said. He added that with his face glum, the minister bid adieu to his office chamber and cast a last look at his chair. "He walked down to the main corridor and we saw there were tears about to rush out of his eyes. All his colleagues had left and then he all alone walked down the stairs and left the Secretariat," eyewitnesses said. The minister after the hectic lobbying was recently inducted into the cabinet and not even more than two months had passed since he had assumed the office of the minister. "Power is a strange thing and this is what we see when a person has been snatched the authority he has. Moreover, all came in as a surprise and one could well imagine the mental turbulence of those who were really at the helm," says an official. |
