Raj Bhawan 'approaches' Iqbal Khanday | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 20: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir state was placed under the Governor's Rule on Wednesday morning following President Ram Nath Kovind's approval, Raj Bhawan is believed to have approached former Chief Secretary Muhammad Iqbal Khanday with an offer. Sources said the Raj Bhawan approached the former top bureaucrat of the state with the proposal that the government was "interested to consider him among advisors who are likely to be appointed in the coming days." But sources close to Raj Bhawan said Khanday has initially refused the offer citing "personal reasons." Deliberations may however continue, the sources said. In 2015 Khanday had attained superannuation amid strained relations with the Muftis. Many officials believe that he was given an unceremonious farewell by the then government. As about Vohra, whose previous stints at Governor's rule were widely hailed by the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he is looking for a best team to provide quality governance to the people of the state. Sources said Governor while addressing top functionaries of the government today in Srinagar asked them to be at tips and toes and that no indiscipline should be tolerated at any level adding that the people must get best of the services in all the regions of the state. Sources said the Governor will be intolerant to any cases of corruption or favoritism in the administration as any official found guilty of the offence would be given "exemplary punishment." "All we can say is that the Governor wants to provide good governance to the people and that no indiscipline in administration will be tolerated," said a senior official. Meanwhile the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been celebrating the breakup of the PDP-BJP alliance accusing the twin parties of having allegedly broken records of corruption and favoritism. "No official would work without influence of sorts and we hope that era of helplessness for the aam aadmi has come to an end as Governor's rule has made us optimistic," said an observer. |
