JAMMU, June 21: With the concerned authority in deep slumber, street vendors have occupied footpath of Chest and Disease Hospital Jammu illegally for last many years, forcing pedestrians to walk on roads thus endangering their lives. It has also hit the city beautification works. According to officials, traders, hawkers, vegetable and fruit sellers have occupied footpath in busy streets especially opposite the Medical College and Hospital Jammu and near Chest and Diseases Hospital road. "Illegal encroachment of footpath near hospital gate has posed several problems for the emergency situation as well as patients and their attendants to the reached final destination. Neither the administration of the hospital nor the Police personnel are showing any concern to regulate the traffic at entry and exit points," they said. Officials claimed that they were running businesses on either side of footpaths in busy streets unmindful of causing inconvenience to pedestrians, traffic jams have become a common phenomenon and owing to pedestrians are seen walking on the roads. The issues of the encroachment of footpaths were taken up with local police, Municipal Corporation Jammu as well as Hospital's administration but they seem to be in deep slumber as no action has been taken against the encroachers, who had occupied almost half busy road and complete footpath, causing inconvenience to the commuters. Officials further said the vendors pay bribes to some of the police officials whenever they come to evict them from footpaths. Pedestrians are becoming victims of accidents as they are walking on roads. |
