Anantnag, June 21: Amid sobs and shrieks, slain police cop Tanveer Ahmad was laid to rest in his ancestral village Kharpora-Shangus in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. A large number of people gathered to attend the last rites of the martyred cop. Men, women and children thronged the residence of Tanveer throughout the day on Thursday to pay tributes to him. Three policemen had suffered injuries on Wednesday evening in a militant attack at Galender, Pampore. Among them Tanveer later succumbed to injuries at Army's Srinagar base hospital where they were being treated. Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Police held a wreath laying ceremony at District Police Lines Khanabal, Anantnag. Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Younis Malik, DIG South Kashmir Amit Kumar, SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan and other officers from security agencies and civil administration paid tributes to the slain policeman. Tanveer, according to locals residents, has left behind aged parents, a brother and unmarried sister. "He was lone bread earner to his family," they said. Police officials said that slain cop had joined the police force just before two years. However, no politician came to attend the last rites of slain cop. Even former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who till Wednesday afternoon, used to condemn such attacks and killings has not condemned the attack yet. |
