Heavy rain, landslides halt 7th batch of Shri Amarnath Yatra | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, July 4: Inclement weather and landslides at Panthyal, Ramsu and other parts along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway halted the Amarnath Yatra at Battal Ballian here today. Landslides in the Banihal-Ramban sector in and shooting of stones blocked the 260-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway - the only all-weather road connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country. Amarnath Yatra's 7th batch left base camp of Jammu at around 3:15 am with 2030 pilgrims on board in 68 vehicles including Buses, LMV's. However, in view of heavy rush as well as inclement weather condition, the pilgrims heading towards Pahalgam base camp in Kashmir were halted at Battal Ballian Udhampur as a precautionary measure by the authorities. Pilgrims while talking to Early Times said that we are comfortable here but better arrangements could have been made if the authorities wanted to halt the yatra. They added that if weather was bad than why the authorities allow them to leave the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu. Meanwhile, the officials shifted the stranded pilgrims to a banquet hall in Udhampur city as well as Tikri. |
