BJP may give external support for Govt formation | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 4: Even as speculations are rife that a rival faction of MLAs from the Peoples Democratic Party is planning rebellion against the Muftis to form a new government with the Bharatiya Janta Party, the BJP may give "external support for the rebels." Source said though the BJP has not ruled out possibility of any new government formation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the party is not interested in direct support. Sources said the BJP leadership in New Delhi looks ahead for external support but that "the pros and cons of any such decision are being weighed." Some of the top leaders of the BJP are understood to have held a detailed meeting in this regard and that the "party wants to weight prospects of any such alliance in the light of 2019 general elections." "While the national leadership is looking to explore possibility of external support, BJP leaders from within the state want to get due share in power so that the aspirations of people of Jammu are taken into consideration," said a senior BJP leader on the condition of anonymity. He said the top leadership of the BJP doesn't want to give an impression that the party pulled out support to Mehbooba Mufti led government only to create a new government. But then, there are questions being raised by the BJP's leaders from Jammu who say it will be difficult to face the people who voted the party to power if the public aspirations are not considered. Sources said the BJP may put preconditions for any new alliance with regard to the aspirations of the people of Jammu. "Ahead of the formation of the new government, we may set targets for developments that will have to be accomplished in Jammu. If the partners agree on that external support will be a better possibility," said a BJP leader. Sources said the BJP leadership and some "rebels" from the PDP are already into negotiations. "All what is awaited is to get the number of MLAs needed to form government," the leaders said. |
