Shifting of Transformer leaves tube-well defunct in Jagti | Over Rs 7 lakh go into drain | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 9: A tube-well set up by Agriculture Production department (APD) in Jagti village, at a cost of over Rs. 7 Lakhs, has been rendered defunct with the shifting of electric transformer to a nearby locality of a dozen houses of influential people. In response to an RTI application, the department informed that under a centrally sponsored scheme the Agriculture Production department had set up a tubewell for ward number 1 and 2 of Jagti village in the year 2012 at a cost of over Rs. 7 Lakhs. The electric wires were taken from a distance of over half a kilometre, sources said, adding that only the testing of the tubewell was done by the department but same was never used for the purpose, for which it was set up. "It was supposed to be used for irrigation purposes for the village but in the year 2014, when floods were witnessed in the state, the department took an excuse of the floods and abandoned the same", sources said. Sources further disclosed that though there was not any rivulet in the place, where the tubewell was established but despite that, the water was not used for irrigation purpose. "Instead of making the tubewell functional, the department in the year 2015 shifted the 50 MW transformer to a locality, which is some 2 kilometers away from the spot", sources said, adding that it was done only to benefit some influential people of the villages. Sources further disclosed that the funds sanctioned by Union government were misused by the department and the purpose of establishing a tubewell was virtually defeated by officials. "They didn't even raise voice against the shifting of the transformer and have thrown the money into a drain", they said. |
