Slain youth's father dares militants | 'Prove my son was army informer' | | Early Times Report
Kulgam, Aug 9: Father of a youth who was tortured to death by suspected militants on Wednesday has asked the killers to give him proof that his son was an army informer and aided in killing of militants. The militants had abducted two youth from south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday. The gunmen tortured the duo-Mehraj Ahmed Dar, of Hawoora, and Arif Ahmed Sofi, of Khudwani, and left them in a moribund state. Mehraj is still untraceable while Arif was shifted to a Srinagar hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night. Arif was laid to rest on Thursday at his native graveyard. Over six thousand people participated in his funeral prayers that concluded peacefully and without any sloganeering. In his address to the mourners, Arif's father Fayaz Ahmed Sofi said that his family "always stood by the ongoing azadi movement and being a member of the Jamaat-e-Islami sacrificed everything." "If my son has been killed by militants, I want to ask them to provide me proof that he was an army informer. I will not repent over the death of my son if militants will come up with a sound proof," Sofi said. "As far as my knowledge goes, my son was an ardent supporter of militants and the ongoing movement. I appeal you people to ask militants to come up with a proof. They should clarify on which basis they killed my son," he said. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for Arif's killing. A police official said they have registered a case and investigation has been started to identify the assailants. |
