Govt hospitals lack parking space, public faces difficulties | | | Mohammad Sarfaraz
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 3: At a time when vehicular population is increasing at an alarming rate in the state, people coming to hospitals are facing difficulties as many hospitals in Kashmir valley have no parking space. However if they somehow manage to park their vehicles outside or inside the hospital premises, they are being charged arbitrary rates by unauthorized people, most of who are goons. Sources believed that the parking spaces have been outsourced and the money goes to the Hospital Development Fund after giving proper receipts to drivers, or the vehicle owners. Fact of the matter is that due to shortage of parking spaces, commuters/ pedestrians find it difficult to walk freely on roads in all the districts of Kashmir valley, said sources. They said that staff members of the hospitals park their vehicles in these parking slots, but there is hardly any room for the vehicles of patients or attendants. "Due to non availability of car parking facility there is congestion, accidental damages, and environmental degradation, for which concerned authorities should be held responsible, otherwise they should think of other possible ways", said sources. Sources said that, Municipal Committees can play its role as the roadsides are either occupied by illegal vendors or unknown vehicles. They can arrange parking slots and other free spaces for both. |
