PDP, thy name is duplicity | Party surpasses Cong in anti-BJP rants, forgets its past alliance | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 3: As they say, there aren't permanent friends and foes in politics. The PDP is a classic example of this old saying. The party that till June this year was an ally of the BJP and was approving all its actions at the national level has all of a sudden become its worst ever opponent, surpassing even the Congress in its anti-BJP rants. The PDP which used to blame its arch rival National Conference for all the mess the state of Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing has been now targeting the BJP for even the politics the party is doing at the national level. On Monday, the PDP even accused the BJP of trying to create another Pakistan in the country itself and accused it of spreading hate against the Muslims. The party has all of a sudden turned champion of Muslim cause in India and has supported the divisive leader Owaisi for his rhetoric. The party in a statement issued on Monday stated that "in their mad rush for saffronizing the country, the fanatic groups are actually trying to break it up and this must be resisted by all rational and sane elements of the country." "It is also unfortunate that there is no counter narrative to this hate developing anywhere which could halt it and tell these rabid elements that India is not all about them," reads the statement. However, various political commentators and pundits have accused the PDP of doublespeak, questioning party's decision to align with the same party against which it is spiting venom at present. "We don't know which party is right or wrong but we can certainly say that the PDP is trying to rejuvenate itself in state's political landscape by such rhetoric. Does the party think that the peoples' memory is so short-lived that they can forget its alliance with the BJP in the state for three long years? Why wasn't the party then upping an ante against the BJP's policies? Why all of a sudden is the PDP trying to become champions of Muslims in India?" asked one of the political commentators based in Jammu. On December 2, the PDP chief echoed the words of separatists and anti-India elements, claiming that Kashmir could witness 2008-like uprising if the Governor administration doesn't rollback its decision over JK Bank and PRC. Earlier, such threats used to be given by separatists like Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. It is meanwhile, a Herculean task to understand who is who in Kashmir politics. "How could the PDP chief threaten the government like this? By issuing such statements, isn't the PDP chief actually trying to instigate the masses against the Centre?. And in this dubious mode of working, how come NC which was a monster, according to the PDP, has become a messiah for the PDP?" says a functionary of NC. |
