Pak not responding to India's initiatives: Omar | | | Omar Abdullah is right when he blames Pakistan for not responding to India's initiative to improve bilateral relations. He is again right when he berates Pakistan for not having initiated any step for ending export of terror to India, particularly to Jammu and Kashmir. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having taken an initiative to improve ties with Pakistan which, however, did not respond positively. Speaking at a national conclave, he said Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan would have to infuse confidence regarding this intention of friendly relationship with India. The theme of the conclave, was "Challenge of Regional Parties in National Polity". Former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was also present on the occasion. The National Conference leader said Modi had invited then Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as a guest for his swearing-in ceremony and later also visited the neighbouring country. "He got a negative response from Pakistan," Omar said, adding, "it takes two hands to clap". Each time India takes a step forward, negative incidents are created from across the border. This takes the whole process four steps backwards. Pakistan has not addressed India's concerns on terror, Omar said while referring to the release of a postal stamp on slain militant Burhan Wani by the Pakistan government. With regard to politics in Jammu and Kashmir, he apprehended the ruling dispensation at the Centre might delay fresh elections in the state following the BJP's electoral defeats in the Hindi heartland. He said this time the people of Jammu and Kashmir would give a decisive mandate to any political group in the interest of stability as they have learnt the lesson of a fractured mandate in the last Assembly election. Yes Omar Abdullah is again right when he describes the problems faced by people when they had not supported any mainstream political group with votes. He is right when he is reminded of the faulty running of the Government when the PDP and the BJP shared power. Hence he is certain that people, rather voters, may not repeat their blunder which they had made in 2014 when they had given a fractured mandate forcing the PDP for sharing power with the BJP. Yes, the BJP led NDA Government may delay the fresh Assembly election but it cannot delay it for years together. And one thing is certain that voters may not give any fractured mandate. Well Omar should know it that when he headed a NC-Congress coalition Government everything went well and again when the PDP-Congress coalition did well and completed its tenure like the NC-Congress rule. This way coalition between Kashmir centric and Jammu centric parties could have been the result for sustained conflict between the PDP, a secular party and the BJP, regarded as a communal. |
