Father supports Mahaghatbhandhan, son attacks Congress! | Two faces of NC coin | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 17: While National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah attended the coronation of a senior Congress leader Kamal Nath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the NC president Omar Abdullah launched a veiled attack on the Congress by welcoming the imprisonment of party leader Sajjan Kumar. Dr Farooq was seen in Madhya Pradesh sitting with other members of the Mahaghatbhandhan, the group of parties who have come up with alliance against the Bharatiya Janta Party for 2019 elections. The nine-time MP and former union Minister, Kamal Nath was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Anandiben Patel at a function held at the Jambori Maidan, on a day the Delhi High Court convicted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, sparking calls that Kamal Nath should not be made Chief Minister. Accusing Kamal Nath of having had a hand in the riots in Delhi, the BJP and Akali Dal demanded that Kamal Nath should not be made the Chief Minister. But the ceremony went on smoothly and was attended by senior leaders like Congress President Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and HD Deve Gowda, outgoing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and MP Dr Farooq Abdullah. But as Dr Abdullah was busy with the celebrations, former chief minister Omar Abdullah trained guns on the Congress. Omar Abdullah said that justice to victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots was delayed but not denied. "Justice delayed but not denied. #84riots," Abdullah tweeted after the Delhi High Court convicted six persons in an anti-Sikh riots case. The conviction of five others -- former Congress councillor Balwan Khokhar, retired naval officer Captain Bhagmal, Girdhari Lal, former MLAs Mahender Yadav and Kishan Khokhar-- were also upheld by the high court. Sources said for the past few months, the twin leaders of the NC have been playing some "unusual politics." "The son and the father often seem to be differing on their political opinion but this actually helps their party to keep everyone in good humor," said a senior politician on the condition of anonymity. Despite repeated attempts, Dr Farooq Abdullah or his son couldn't be contacted for comments. |
