Manohar terms union budget as anti-youth, anti-farmer | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 3: Terming the Union Budget an "exercise in rhetoric" done with the general elections in mind, former minister and senior congress leader Dr Manohar Lal Sharma alleged that the government has made promises which will never be fulfilled and termed the budget as anti-youth an anti-farmer. He said that the budget has been made keeping upcoming elections in the mind and is based only on slogans, not the facts. Sharma said the interim budget reflects only political motives behind and there is no purpose settlement. He described the budget as an "eyewash" since many schemes declared to help farmers and workers in the unorganized sector do not have sufficient budgetary provision. Agricultural work force have been totally neglected in the budget and it is feared that withdrawal of subsidies on fertilizers and other inputs will increase the cost and hence the sum of Rs 6,000 per year promised is insufficient and further exploitation and mockery of the farmers. Dr Sharma alleged that the government had destroyed the lives of farmers over the past five years. Its Interim Budget announcement of Rs 17 a day for them is an insult to everything they stood and worked for. He further said the Rs 6,000 a year for farmers' announcement basically means that in the next 3 months, Rs 20,000 crore will be spent by the government in buying farmer votes for the BJP but said people know these schemes are merely to buy votes. These last minute tricks don't work. He further said that no solution was given regarding the rising unemployment in the country and said that once again Modi government has betrayed the youth of the country. |
