Something big could happen in J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 24: Security of nearly two dozen Hurriyat operatives, including Geelani, Mirwaiz and Yasin Malik, and 150 other "protected" persons, including some "mainstream" political leaders, has been withdrawn. JKLF chief Yasin Malik has been taken into custody. Ten thousand paramilitary personnel have been rushed to Kashmir. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been working overtime to find clinching evidence to fix the responsibility on Pakistan for the cowardly attack on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama on February 14, which left over 40 CRPF jawans martyred and many others injured. On the other hand, a big team of lawyers from Kashmir has rushed to New Delhi. It could stay put in Delhi till February 28. The reason is that the Supreme Court could hear all the PILs against Article 35A on February 25 or 26 or 27 or 28. If members of the Kashmir Bar have decided to remain present in the Supreme Court during the hearing on Article 35A, the PDP leadership has urged J&K Governor SP Malik to "protect Article 35A". NC vice-president Omar Abdullah too has tweeted on Article 35A. In New Delhi also, top officials in the Home Ministry and Law Ministry are also reportedly giving concrete shape to the Union Government's stand on Article 35A. Top sources have confirmed that the Government of India wanted the Supreme Court to decide the fate of Article 35A and that it was not in favour of any adjournment. The manner in which things are changing only suggests that something big could happen in J&K anytime from now. And the February 23 statement of PM Narendra Modi at Tonk in Rajasthan that "no one will be spared" and that his government was "fighting for Kashmir" only constituted an indication that his government was under tremendous pressure to strike against those who created mess in Kashmir and who conducted the Pulwama terror attack and similar other attacks. |
