Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 27: In gross violation of the authority vested with Block Development Officer and Forest Department, a dent has been made by erasing green gold from a forest area in Akhnoor.
As reported by Early Times, a forest area in Tundi village of Akhnoor tehsil , was decimated to pave way for construction of a road for a specified area , and for the criminal activity both the BDO and forest department connived to clear whole forest area in ward no 8, 9 and 10.
Though the senior officers tried to reach the spot for verification of the fact, a forester, a guard and single man from forest department along with some other blue-eyed locals manipulated the visit and stopped the team 2 kilometers short of the venue by showing another road.
Though there is only one single house existing in the Tundi village, the people of the surrounding area said that without completing any official documents for construction of the road, a JCB was installed in the forest and whole of the green gold was decimated and razed to ground .
" This was an offence committed by the persons from BDO office as well as the forest department Akhnoor that the entire green gold was razed , and sold to the influential to make easy money ," said Tilak Raj, a resident of Pattiyan , a village adjacent to Tundi .
He also said that when the forests officials visited the site, they were held back two kilometers from the venue and JCB was immediately removed from the site.
The villagers allege that Forest department Akhnoor as well as BDO office had been earlier also engaged in harming the forest by cutting off the green gold to make easy money .
The people of the area have appealed to the Commissioner secretary Forest to constitute a team and reach the venue so that the facts on the grounds could be ascertained.
They also alleged that the corrupt officials in the Forest Department as well as those in BDO office be booked for criminal activities and stern action be initiated against them.
