Now expired syringes being used in Srinagar hospitals | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 27: With no let up in complaints against the ailing health sector in the state, in the latest expired syringes are allegedly being used at a government hospital here. The patients and their attendants at the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Rainawari area of the downtown have complained that the hospital was using expired syringes while administering injections and other intravenous drugs thereby allegedly posing risk to the lives of the ailing. The complainants said the syringes which are over a year old in date of expiry are being used in the hospital despite complaints from the patients and other quarters. Sources said the government supplies to the hospital were allegedly corrupt and that this process of use of expired material has been going on for a long time. "There has been no accountability in the system and thus such illegal practices keep taking place and will continue unless government acts tough," said a senior doctor on the condition of anonymity. Sources said over the years such complaints have been pouring in but that no action was ever being taken due to "political influences." When contacted a senior official said the matter has come to their notice and inquiry has been ordered. He said the matter has come to the notice DC Srinagar and that a time bound probe has been ordered. Pertinently it's for the fourth time in the recent past that the government hospitals in Srinagar have come under public scanner. Meanwhile the patients and their attendants have appealed the Governor SP Malik to look into the matter. |
