KUPWARA, Apr 4: Peoples Conference (PC) chairman and former minister, Sajad Gani Lone on Thursday said that National Conference (NC) always betrayed people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reacting to the statements of NC leaders, Lone while talking to reporters at Lolab today said that it was NC that betrayed people of the State from time to time.
He added that in 1996 when former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao had stated that sky is the limit, it was being presumed that people of Jammu and Kashmir will be offered autonomy.
"At that time, it was being presumed that people will be asked to fight elections then pass the bill on autonomy in assembly and they will have no objection, nobody was willing to fight the elections but Dr Farooq Abdullah came forward and asked to give him power and he will fight the elections," said chairman PC.
Sajad Lone said NC always betrayed the people from time to time including in 1975, 1996 while as 1987 is known to all, so what remains there.
Lone also added that they are making emotional statements over human right abuse but let them openly say that how many persons were killed during their rule.
"Why don't they (NC) leaders speak over the killings that occurred during their tenure? Does Omar have any details how many were killed during his rule," he asked.
Meanwhile, PC vice president and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil while addressing electoral meeting in Rafiabad criticized NC vice president Omar Abdullah for making Kashmir a "political circus".
Senior PC leader said the NC is responsible for all the miseries Kashmiris have gone through in the form of 'killings, rapes and tortures."
"Kashmir is reaping what Omar's father and grandfather had sown over the years by surrendering the special status of the state for the lust of power," Vakil said.
He said the remarks made by Omar Abdullah to revert positions of Sadr-e-Riyasat and Wazeer -e-Azam, Vakil reminded junior Abdullah his lineage had made bogus promises from time to time and took the masses of Jammu and Kashmir for a ride since long in lieu of power.
"Omar has realized that his party's debacle is imminent and his party is placed at where its image cannot be retrieved, so to counter that he tried to lure the masses by striking the chord of the restoration of the status of Sadr-e- Riyasat and Wazeer-e- Azam.
Isn't it true that the party you have allied with is the one which demolished the positions of Sadr-e- Riyasat and Wazeer-e- Azam?" he asked.
Vakil said that it was under the stewardship of Sheikh Abdullah in 1975 that amendment to Art. 368 of the Indian constitution was instituted which blocked the reversal of the nomenclatures, making the demotion a permanent feature of the state polity.
"By accepting the designation to the post of Chief Minister in 1975 in a stark climb down from his previous position as Wazeer-e-Azam Sheikh Abdullah endorsed the demotion and sanctified all previous erosions enacted to the Autonomy of the state", he added.
The Abdullah dynasty will stoop to any level to barter the interests of the state - a feat repeatedly undertaken by each generation as long as it ensures their continuity in power", he added.
Pertinently, three districts of north Kashmir, including Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara will go to polls for 1-Baramulla Lok Sabha seat on April 11.
