Another patient dies due to 'mismatched' blood at SKIMS | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 4: A woman who was allegedly administered mismatched blood passed away at SKIMS Soura here on Thursday. Sources said Mir Anjum a 22-year old from Bemina here died at the ICU of SKIMS Soura after remaining on ventilator for around a week. She was admitted to the institute on March 29 after she passed blood with stool. As per the bereaved family she was infused wrong blood group instead of O+ve, due to which she went into coma and didn't recover. Sources said atleast two more patients have died allegedly due to blood transfusion reaction or mismatch at the hospital in the past around a month. Sources said health experts suspect use of substandard equipment in the blood bank and during transfusion process a the cause of the deadly reaction. As per the doctors, the use of inferior substandard material was the main cause of the transfusion reaction putting patients at risks and other life-threatening ailments. As per the medicos due to the reaction, most the patients suffer kidney failure and were at risk. Doctors said that such case had happened for the first at the hospital triggering outrage from the attendants of patients. When contacted, the hospital authorities refuted the charges. They however said after the patient from Bemina suffered the "reaction", replacement of blood bags and reagents has been ordered. Sources said a probe was likely to be ordered on Friday. "Given the grave allegations a probe may be ordered, but nothing can be said of now," the official said on the condition of anonymity. |
