For votes, BJP ready to help stone pelters in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Apr 4: The Bhartiya Janta Party in Kashmir has been seeking lists from village heads about their demands on the pretext they will fulfill them if they vote for their candidates. The Lok Sabha elections dates have been announced and Jammu Kashmir assembly polls may be conducted later. Sources within the BJP said that although the BJP has not organized any big rally in Kashmir but have been holding door-to-door campaign. "We seek lists from the people. Some seek releasing of youth booked under stone pelting charges," a BJP leader said. The BJP leader said that they can't help these youth officially. "We have been told that BJP will help even stone pelters if they vote for the BJP. But the party can't announce any statement as our stand on the national level is completely different," a BJP leader from south Kashmir said. The BJP leader said they have also been telling people that Article 35A and 370 can't be revoked. "BJP leaders issue statements only for the votes. But we won't revoke them," he added. The BJP leaders have held several meetings in past two weeks where they discussed its strategy for the upcoming polls. "Our main focus will be on other backward class (OBC) Muslims, Gujjars and some segments of Shia dominated areas," a BJP leader. "By focusing on marginalised groups, the BJP wants to strengthen its base in the valley. The OBCs, Gujjars are upset with valley based political parties for ignoring their demands," the BJP leader said. He said that party's main focus was not only in Jammu but Kashmir also. "This is reason that we won't announce the chief ministerial candidate from Jammu unlike past but will tell voters he could be from any region of the state." The BJP earlier also held OBC conference in Srinagar. During the conference, the BJP leaders promised the participants that they would "address" their issues if they "strengthen" the BJP in the valley. The BJP won 25 seats in the 2014 Assembly elections in Jammu region and the highest vote share of 23 percent for the first time in the electoral history of the state and formed coalition government with the PDP. |
