Ex-Director Information condemns functioning of Councillors | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 7: The condition of different wards of Jammu city has worsened from the time Councillors got elected as members of the urban local body, said ex-Director Information. In a statement issued here today, former Director Information Narinder Singh said that few days ago he happened to pass through the ward of Gopal, Councillor Residency Road area and he was astonished to see heap of garbage at the entrance of Mohalla Jiwan Shah near Prem Tent House adding that on enquiring from nearby shopkeepers, who narrated that despite repeated complaints to the concerned councillor who also lives in this locality no action was taken. Singh said that not only this, he himself has complained to the supervisor of the ward number 42 lane 3, sector 2 of Nanak Nagar so many times, firstly the supervisor keeps his both mobiles switch off or engage and even if comes on line his excuse is that ward is short of staff with the result drains of lane three are generally chocked. Most unfortunate part is that there are several wards reserved for the women and once they are elected become non-functional, such as whenever you ring up corporator ward 42 firstly no response and if you approach her husband some time he picks up the phone and informs that he is out of station, generally he avoids by disconnecting the call, Singh said. He further said that prior to the election of Councillors, JMC was functioning efficiently adding that under the present circumstances, utmost need for the government is to make the Jammu Municipal Corporation independent and free from the Councillors' control as their contributions are zero and merely burden on the government exchequer. |
