20 months on, Chopra Nursing Home remains shut | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 7: Chopra Nursing Home at Government Medical College and Hospital is closed for the last 20 months in the name of renovation, but so far the work has not been started. This nursing home was established in the name of Father of Indian Pharmacology and first scientist from Jammu, Col. R. N. Chopra, and was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, on December 21, 1989. The nursing home fetched the state exchequer a huge revenue through thousands of surgeries. The nursing home was closed in the month of August 2017 for public use. Since then it has become out of bounds for the general public, especially the patients, who look for private healthcare alternatives during odd hours. The delay in starting repair work is causing great inconvenience to the patients who are being forced to rush to private clinics where treatment is available at higher cost. Moreover, the continued closure of the nursing home is causing huge loss to the state exchequer. "Even after submitting the estimate of the work by the officials of the civil engineering wing and completing other formalities, no efforts were made to start repair work, "sources stated, adding that it also exposed the lethargic approach of the GMC&H administration which appears to be least bothered about the closure of the nursing home. No senior official of the GMC&H was available for comment. |
