Seminar on 'Air pollution in context of Mountains' organized | | | Early Times Report
Bhaderwah, June 7: As a part of World Environment Day celebrations - 2019, Institute of Mountain Environment organized a seminar on the theme 'Air pollution in the context of mountains". Dr. Neeraj Sharma Incharge IME, formally welcomed the guests and presented the theme of the event. Prof. Anil Raina, Rector Bhaderwah Campus in his presentation deliberated upon the current scenario of air pollution in local and global context by highlighting few of the significant case studies. He impressed upon the youths to follow the sustainable practices to maintain the pristine and longevity of planet earth. Dr. Rajeshwar Singh Jasrotia (Retired IFS Officer), the Guest of Honour on the occasion, in his address highlighted the issues and challenges being faced by the mountains especially the deteriorating air quality. Five schools from Bhaderwah and Doda participated in the seminar. Neha Parihar from Green Model Higher Secondary School, Doda bagged the first position while Sakshi Thakur of Blue Ribbon Higher Secondary School, Bhaderwah and Muneeb-ul-Islam Parray of Govt. Higher Secondary School (Boys), Bhaderwah were adjudged first and second runner up, respectively. Prof. Anil K Raina and Dr. Neeraj Sharma later demonstrated the working of Air sampler for the analysis of PM 10 & PM 2.5 and gaseous pollutants in Air Monitoring Laboratory of Institute of Mountain Environment. Mr. Chhering Tandup, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Earth Sciences presented the formal vote of thanks. |
