BJP, Congress make hollow slogans over development | Dilapidated roads and drains greet visitors in Nanak Nagar's sec 13 | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 24: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta who would be contesting upcoming assembly election from the Gandhi Nagar Constituency as an independent candidate today conducted extensive tour of Nanak Nagar sector 13 as part of his mass contact programme. During his mass contact programme, he met with people of all walks of life and heard their problems that plagued the locality. He also put forth his vision before them for contesting election. The people of the locality welcomed and appreciated his move and assured him of their full cooperation and support. Residents of locality criticized the hollow slogans of political parties leaders either of BJP or Congress made before the assembly election but failed to deliver on ground, consequently they have been reeling under acute shortage of civic amenities that were promised by them. Amarjit Singh Sidhu and his son Ramneek Singh Sidhu resident of sector 13 informed Munish Gupta that our lane is in dilapidated condition since last many years but never maintained by either local Corporator or former MLAs. All of them made only made lip services. "the streetlights were installed has been gone dysfunctional, manholes developed on roads, drains system collapsed but nobody seems bothered about them", they said. The leaders come here only before election but after getting elected they forgot us. The former MLAs who won election on BJP ticket by defeating former MLA of Congress never visited our lanes. However we appraised him when he organized a meeting at Party Headquarter, Trikuta Nagar and he promised us, the lane and by lanes would be constructed soon but till date no body come here to start blacktopping, said Joginder Singh. "The callousness of local councillor and former MLA judged from this fact that recently, the department of PWD started blacktopping of some lanes but by lanes left dilapidated. Now the by lanes turns manholes that causing water logging and drainage water enter into houses whenever the rain comes", said Hardev Singh. Baljeet Kour informed Munish Gupta that despite repeatedly filled online form for registering herself in electoral list but couldn't succeed so far. Like here there are two more residents of same locality still not registered in the electoral list. Kamaljit Kour and her husband Sardar Balbir Singh, both of them doing menial job to arrange bread and butter to their family members but have no toilet facilities. However, they gave representation to local independent councillor for toilet but he gave assurance but not executed on ground. Criticizing the selective approach of former MLAs and Civic authority, the local alleged that in Gandhi Nagar locality, everyday garbage collecting vehicle come to lift garbage but its only area which deprived from the same facilities. The locals are being forced to dump garbage along the drains due to absence of bins which ultimately clogged the drainage system. |
