Vasundra Masoodi calls for establishing mobile schools, capping school fee, bags' weight | | | Agencies New Delhi, Oct 10: Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir, State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights, Vasundra Masoodi, today attended a day long consultation meet on New Education Policy organized by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Deliberating on the subject, Chairperson strongly called for investing in children and young people to achieve a more able, just and sustainable world for all. She asserted that children in Jammu and Kashmir are reservoir of extraordinary talent and intelligence and they have contributed in path breaking achievements for the country and earned laurels. There is need of channelizing the energies of J&K youth in a right perspective to help them recognize their full potential for a bright tomorrow. Masoodi advocated establishment of mobile schools wherein children should be free to enroll for any class and sit in examination without any precondition for certification of qualification in previous classes, especially in view of children who live in far flung or hilly areas like Jammu & Kashmir. The Chairperson emphasized strict adherence to MHRD advisory prescribing a cap on weight for school bags as heavy weights are seriously taking a toll on the health (spine) of students and prescribed de-recognition of schools that flout basic human rights of children. She further asserted that there should be shorter duration of time and only 5 days a week system for all private or government aided schools. The Chairperson called for strict implementation of Right to Education Act especially with regard to providing 25% quota for EWS scheme. She vehemently advocated that there should be cap on ever increasing school fees and parents or children should not be burdened with arbitrary school fee hike at any cost. |
