BDC Elections: BJP records first victory from Bijbehara | "NC, PDP fielding proxy candidates" alleges Sofi Yousf | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Oct 10: Alleging that National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders were fielding proxy candidates in ongoing Block Development Elections, Bhartiya Janata Party State Vice-President on Thursday claimed to have won from Bijbehara block. "Our candidate was elected unopposed from Bijbehara," Sofi told reporters here in Khanabal Anantnag after addressing workers meeting. Ghulam Ahmad Dar, who was elected unopposed, was garlanded by the top party leadership at Khanbal party office. Dar, a resident of Sangam Bijbehara wowed to work for the poor and marginalized sections of the society. "I am happy that I won the election from Bijbehara. I will work for the people especially for the poor sections of the society," he said. Dar thanked BJP leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi for holding Block Development elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Bijbehara is hometown of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and is being considered strong hold of Peoples Democratic Party. Mehbooba Mufti and her top leadership is currently under house arrest. He alleged that National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders were 'calling shots' from jails and 'instructing' party workers to field candidates. "There are around 300 blocks in Jammu and Kashmir but around 1300 candidates have so far decided to take part in the elections and have submitted nomination papers so it clear that every political party is taking part in this elections," he said while addressing the workers. Sofi said that claims of Congress state President Ghulam Ahmad Mir that they have boycotting the ongoing elections is also hoax as the congress party too has fielded candidates from Kokernag and Dooru area of Anantnag district. Important to mention, Congress state President Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Wednesday addressed a press conference in Jammu and announced that Congress has decided to boycott the elections to protest the indifferent attitude. |
