BDC polls: Win-Win situation for BJP
10/10/2019 11:04:59 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 10: As the stage is set for Block Development Council (BDC) elections in J&K, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) seems to be in a win-win situation as major regional parties are not participating in the election.
Major political parties like National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and Congress are not taking part in the upcoming BDC Chairperson election. While on the other hand leaders like Dr. Farooq Abdullah have been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) last month and other leaders continue to remain detained at several places, since 5th August.
All this have put Bharatiya Janata Party into winning situation as there is no big competition to them. And, the upcoming BDC election has given BJP a chance to win any election by huge margin first time in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) J&K Shailendra Kumar had on 29th September announced the election for BDC Chairperson in the month of October.
He had said that the election will be held in one single phase across the state. While as date of polls and counting of votes will be on 24th October. The first BDC Chairperson has brought joy among party workers, politicians and people affiliated with Bharatiya Janta Party.
A top BJP party dignitary told Early Times, "It is the time for new party to emerge and do something for people who were not heard by the past elected governments. It is the high time that BJP do development for the people".
He added that BDC election is first step for the development of local residents here and BJP is all people's party and we are sure that we will have our BDC chairperson from every district.
Another BJP party official said that the BJP will work on all round development in Kashmir and will play an important role in eliminating the poverty in the state. And, party cadres will work on-grounds to eliminate corruption and favouritism in the region. However, other political parties believe that BJP is taking advantage of the current situation.
"BJP are well aware about the situation and they know it very well that leaders of various political parties are detained. And, BDC election in such circumstances will only benefit BJP, while other parties are nowhere in the scene with obvious reason", said party worker of another political party.
