JAMMU, Nov 28: Condemning the killing of Sarpanch in Anantnag by terrorists, All J&K Panchayat Conference lambasted the government for its failure to provide adequate security to the elected Panchs and Sarpanchs of J&K. Briefing media persons here, Arun Sharma, BDC Chairman Sunderbani and Provincial President AJKPC, condemned the brutal killing of a Sarpanch in Anantnag. Slamming the terrorists attack, he called it a failure of the government to protect the lives of democratically elected Panchayat members. "The J&K Government working under the guidance of Lt Governor GC Murmu must ensure immediate security cover to the AJKPC leaders who are on the hit list of terrorists for their pro-democracy stance," he said. BDC Chairman said that in the core committee meeting of AJKPC, the organization will decide the future course of action and behavior of government towards Panchs and Sarpanchs. He said if government will not change its behavior towards Panchs and Sarpanchs, the Panchayats leaders have no other option to go on mass resignation. Expressing serious concern over the ongoing Back to Village Programme-2, he termed it as a futile exercise and said that that the scheme had failed to generate much enthusiasm amongst the rural folk. He said that B2V programme had utterly failed to win the confidence of the Panchayats which were literally starving for want of funds. Among others who were present in the press conference included Tarsem Sharma, BDC Chairman RS Pura, Gurdeep Saini General Secretary AJKPC, Capt Fateh Chand District President AJKPC; Sarpanch Surjeet Choudhary Working President; Darshan Singh Chairman Panchayat Judiciary Committee; Rajat Sharma and Monu Sharma. |
