BJP's silence on setting deadline for delimitation commission raises many questions | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 28: Almost a year has been passed after dissolution of the assembly of the erstwhile state of J&K but BJP leadership has failed to set the deadline for delimitation of assembly seats to end 'bias' against Jammu. Silence maintained by BJP on time frame for delimitation commission has raised doubt on the intention of Saffron Brigade because already people of Jammu have been betrayed on many other issues. Although BJP has repeatedly promised setting up delimitation panel to redraw assembly constituencies in its election manifesto from time to time, party leaders were non-committal of setting any deadline for this exercise to 'empower' neglected regions of the state. BJP leaders are supporting setting up of delimitation but they are not giving any timeframe for the panel. Instead of setting a deadline for the panel, BJP leader are creating confusion on this issue. Interestingly Congress had already doubted intension of the BJP in sitting up panel to re-draw assembly constituencies. "Delimitation appears to be a mere slogan by BJP to befool people ahead of assembly elections in J&K", a leader of Congress said recently. People reminded the BJP of its 'Vision Document' released during 2014 elections as also the statements of its central and state leaders assuring end of politico-economic bias against Jammu region by holding delimitation of Assembly constituencies in J&K. Residents of Jammu sought early action in the matter by bringing appropriate legislation in the upcoming session of parliament. With declaration of J&K as Union Territory (UT) with legislature, all legislative powers pertaining to the UT vesting in the Parliament, the BJP should have absolutely no problem in amending section 47 of the constitution so as to end the freeze imposed upon delimitation in 2001-2002 by the state Assembly. |
