Water fountains, ban on dumping garbage saves aquatic life in Mansar Lake, says CEO | | | Jammu, Nov 29: As inflow of tourists has increased manifold to Mansar over the years, the Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority has taken lot many measures like installation of water fountains and imposing blanket ban on dumping garbage around the lake to save aquatic life in the water body. Mansard Lake, situated in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, some 55-kilometres from here is believed to be sacred place having mythological belief among Hindus that it is a ‘Devsthan’ of ‘Naag Devta’ and should be protected by all means. “So far no flora and fauna has been decimated as such but due to BOD levels in winter, aquatic life (especially fishes) has died,” Nagendra Jamwal, Chief Executive Officer, (CEO), Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority (SMDA) here told UNI.
