Students stranded in COVID-19 affected regions to be evacuated: Union FM | Union Foreign Minister visits Baramulla | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, Mar 9: Union Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar today assured that all the students and other citizens, stranded in COVID-19 affected regions shall be evacuated after proper medical screening. He said that union government is continuously pursuing diplomatic engagements with the governments of affected countries for the safe evacuation of such persons. Minister made these remarks during his visit to Baramulla where he met about 12 delegations and deputations who put their grievances and demands pertaining developmental concerns. The minister was repeatedly appraised by a few individuals and delegations about the evacuation of students, stranded in different affected regions especially in Iran. Reiterating the Unions Government's commitment to ensure holistic and equitable development of all regions, the Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir will soon witness a new dawn of peace, progress and development adding that several economic sectors including horticulture, tourism etc shall be developed and upgraded on modern lines. Dr Jaishankar said that Kashmir valley is endowed with huge and enormous tourism potential and need of the hour is to highlight that potential in and outside the country for the socio-economic development of the region. While underling the need to develop basic infrastructure in Passport offices/Seva Kendras, the minister said that several initiatives shall be taken for streamlining public service delivery. Meanwhile, various delegations apprised the union minister about their long pending demands including of the establishment of Sports University, Garbage dumping site, construction of a Mini-Secretariat and extended several other demands for the overall welfare of the area. While as another delegation demanded the establishment of IT Park in Baramulla, upgradation of infrastructure in health institutions, development of parking facility in the town for tackling traffic congestion and besides that a special employment drive for the unemployed youth besides exhorting for reviving the pristine and historical glory of the town. Meanwhile the Minister also e-inaugurates Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalia (KGBV) Watergam Rafiabad that has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 113.12 lacs and having an intake capacity of 50 girl students.
