| Apni Party unnerves NC, PDP, Congress | | Kashmir centric parties left dumbfounded, left with nothing to choose | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 9: Appearance of Altaf Bukhari led ‘Apni Party’ at the political arena has evoked sharp reactions from Kashmir centric parties like National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and even the Congress.
Soon after the former finance minister of erstwhile J&K State formally launched his party, the NC, PDP and Congress issued statements to express their dismay over the formation of new party in Kashmir.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The traditional parties in Kashmir which dominated the politics in the Valley for the past seven decades are finding it hard to digest the competition.”
He said, “These parties have realized that their days are over and no one in New Delhi is ready to pay any heed to them and the tantrums they are throwing. Delhi means business, and in the past six months it has become very clear.”
An observer said, “Bukhari seems to have broken the shackles. His assertion that Apni Party won’t sell dreams and illusions to people is a direct attack on NC and PDP which kept their politics confined to autonomy, self rule and the debate about J&K’s accession with the Union of India being temporary.”
The observer said that the Government of India has got a clear cut approach towards Jammu and Kashmir i.e. J&K is an integral part of India and no power on earth can snatch it. “Whosoever challenges J&K’s accession with India will have to face the law of the land. Three former chief ministers of J&K, Farooq Abdullah his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are serving detention under Public Safety Act for challenging the sovereignty of the country. Separatists, who used to dance to the tunes of Pakistan and their handlers sitting across the Line of Control have been cut to size. The Government of India has made it clear that no one can preach sedition at pretext of the freedom of speech,” he added.
Another analyst said, “Bukhari’s assertions that he will strive for what is achievable is a clear hint that leaders in Kashmir cannot cross the line, and the ones who don’t want to remain within the line won’t be allowed to do politics, nor will they ever get a chance to rule J&K again.”
He said, “Revival of political activities in Kashmir is an indication that process for having an elected government in place has commenced. Now it’s for the leaders to decide whether they want to keep on harping about the past or want to become the part of the new set up, which promises to bring people out of hopelessness and despair, which they have been facing for the past 30-years.” |
