JAMMU, Mar 9: The Irrigation Department has allegedly suffered a loss of crores in over dozen of Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS) due to their time and cost overrun resulting in defeating the main objective of the scheme to provide benefit in boosting agriculture sector of the State. Sources told Early Times that the in order to enhance agriculture sector, the Lift Irrigation Schemes were implemented in State as centrally sponsored schemes to provide irrigated water to farmers through lift system. “Irrigation Department took up many LIS projects without conducting proper survey, which later faced many technical and other issues due to which they could not be completed within specified time period,” they said. They further said that in respect of Ismailpur, Akalpur, Seri Palai, Awneera, Lalyal, Saidgarh, Sohanjana, Kothey Saini, Jethana, Gurah Pattan, Tral, Rafiabad, Rajpora, Rakhi Momin and Nikowal Lift Irrigation Schemes, time and cost overrun was observed, , which were taken up with the hefty amount in crores. “No appropriate and timely steps were taken to complete all the ongoing lift irrigation schemes in a time bound manner by the department, which resulted delay in their completion and subsequently their functioning,” they said. |
