EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Mar 22: In what could be fittingly described as unbelievable, several structural cracks have been developed in the under-construction building of Government Degree College Jindrah allegedly due to the of inferior construction material by the executing agency. The college building has almost become unsafe even before its completion. It is in place to mention here that the then Education Minister laid the foundation stone of the collage building and the construction work was handed over to the executing agency, Jammu and Kashmir Police Housing Corporation to construct academic block, office block and other miscellaneous civil works involving a cost of nearly Rs 7 crore in the first phase. The second phase would include construction of other civil works and development of campus area at a cost of over Rs 4.50 crore. It also needs to be mentioned here that the completion of the construction work had to be finished within 18 months from its start but almost four years have passed but the project is still hanging in balance. But, unfortunately the under-construction college building now has started to develop big cracks tilted little from its foundation due to the landslides triggered by rainfall. Locals said that it is really shocking that before completion the building started to develop cracks and it seems that it has now become unsafe. They urged the LG to intervene and order a probe into the matter. While speaking to Early Times, Anil Sharma, Sarpanch Panchayat Halqa Jindrah and senior BJP leader expressed serious concern over the structural cracks developed in the under-construction building for Government Degree College and urged the Government to institute an enquiry into poor and substandard quality of work, fix responsibility and punish those responsible for the gross negligence.
