Kashmir playgrounds become new worry for corona virus spread | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 22: While the world prefers lockdown to save precious human lives, the playgrounds in Kashmir are flooded with youth nowadays who turn up for gaming activities thereby raising fears over spread of the deadly corona virus. While people rarely walk on the roads, and the markets remain shut, the playfields in Kashmir remain busy for the whole day. This is despite the fact that Section 144 that prevents assembly of more than five odd persons has been put in place. From the huge playfield at SP College near Lal Chowk to Amar Singh college in Tulsi Bagh to other places most the grounds are busy. Sources said the health experts have cautioned the authorities not to encourage any such activities but the concerned have been silent. "We have told it in a clear-cut manner that no sporting activities should be encouraged as these can lead to spread of the deadly infection but no one is listening to us," said a expert from the department of Health. Sources said the authorities apprehend that any action against youth may lead to law and order problem and thus "need to be avoided in such critical times." Sources said most of the playfield were busy even on March 22 when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for janata curfew and whole country was by and large adhering to his words of wisdom. "When the youth of a region are so insensitive towards a crises that has brought the entire world to a halt, the collective conscience of such a place can only be imagined. I hang my head in shame," said a former professor of the SP College. When contacted a senior official said a strategy was being drawn to get rid of such a menace. "We also request parents of such youth to ask them to stay indoors," said a senior officla official. |
