SRINAGAR, Apr 11: The positive cases of Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 224 as 17 fresh cases were reported today from both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions of the union territory. Reports said that while 12 fresh cases were reported from the Kashmir valley five fresh cases came to the fore from the Jammu division. Since six persons have recovered and four others have died due to the COVID-19 the active cases of Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir are 214. While Kashmir has 180 positive cases, Jammu has 34 such cases. Meanwhile, a day after giving birth to a baby at Sri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) hospital in Jammu, a woman from Akhnoor tested positive for Corona Virus. This is the J&K's first case of a COVID-19 positive patient giving birth. The sample of the baby has been taken and results are awaited. "Both the woman, a resident of Akhnoor Jammu, and baby are healthy but the woman's tests returning positive for Corona Virus has created panic. The hospital has many patients and this is reason why everybody is alarmed," a senior official said. In the meantime, government spokesman Rohit Kansal tweeted, "17 new cases reported in J&K. 5 from Jammu Division and 12 from Kashmir. Total positive cases now 224." 12 cases in Kashmir include six from Bandipora, three from Kupwara and one from Budgam districts. "Two more positives from Muqam Shawali and another from Bandipora are currently residing in Trehgam. They all are contacts of earlier positive patients. All three are under quarantine at COVID Hospital Kupwara and are stable," Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Anshul Garg said. The government through the media bulletin informed that 17 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), five from Jammu and 12 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 224. "Out of 224 positive cases, 214 are Active Positive, six have recovered and four have died. Furthermore, till date 48,202 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance," said the bulletin. The bulletin said this includes 7,729 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 422 in hospital quarantine, 214 in hospital isolation and 28,912 under home surveillance. Besides, 10921 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. It said that 2982 samples have tested as negative till April 11, 2020. According to the district wise break up Srinagar has 58 positive cases wherein 56 are active positive, one has recovered and one has died, Bandipora 41 positive cases with 38 active positive, two have recovered and one died, Baramulla 33 positive cases with 32 active positive, one died, Budgam 11 positive cases all of whom are active positive, Pulwama three positive cases-all active positive, Shopian and Kupwara with 14 and 15 positive cases respectively and all are active positive and Ganderbal and Kulgam with two and three positive cases respectively all of whom are active positive. Similarly, Jammu has 19 positive cases of whom 17 are active positive and two have recovered, Udhampur 18 positive cases of which 17 are active positive, one died, while as Rajouri and Kishtwar have three and one positive cases respectively wherein all the three in Rajouri are active positive and the single positive case has recovered fully in Kishtwar district. Further, there are three positive cases in Samba whom all are active positive. The bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing. Meanwhile, according to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, older adults (60 years and above) or people with underlying health conditions are at higher risk of developing severe forms of COVID-19. "For those over 60 years and people with underlying health conditions, keeping your physical distance from others is advised. Don't allow visitors or go outside during the COVID-19 outbreak. Alternatively, socialize by phone every day with friends or family. Check for common symptoms like cough, fever and difficulty in breathing. Seek medical care immediately, if you have difficulty in breathing. Keep family/friends informed if you need assistance," the advisory said. The general public has been urged to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to Covid-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily. The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary visit to hospitals, in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly by calling on Covid-19 helpline numbers so that they can be provided correct medical advice and directed to the right health facility, if needed. |
