Budding J&K fencers turn artists, sketchers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 17: The third phase of lockdown has come to an end on Sunday in India and the ‘StayHomeStaySafe’ like precautionary measures have changed many lives. Many turned chefs, some singers and few kept themselves occupied with their hobbies but the budding fencers of Jammu and Kashmir have found a unique way of learning techniques and skills. The fencers turned artists and have started sketching training sessions after clicking them on their cell phones to be ‘perfectionists’. Being trained by Rachna Jamwal, Fencing Coach, J&K Sports Council during online sessions in view of lockdown, the fencers were tasked to draw their sketch after attending regular training sessions. “The fencers were told to play a regular game after 30 minutes footwork while practising fencing,” Ms Jamwal here said. She added that the young fencers were assigned a task to draw a sketch while performing training so that they find ‘best & worst’ in them. “The fencers have been performing different home tasks online as guided like ladder, lounging, targetting,” said the coach adding that they are not only capturing sessions in cameras but drawing sketches as well to get more reformed after reviewing it and express feeling towards fencing on a paper. The fencers have also captioned and themed the sketches. Youngest fencer Ariv (8) on his sketch writes, “I love fencing and I am a proud fencer.” Myra and Samrat writes, “international sport fencing” on their drawing. Aman captioned his sketch, “fencing is my favourite game and I love fencing.” “Proud to be a fencer”, writes Aditya Jasrotia and Harshwardhan captions, “I love fencing.” Siblings Anima and Mahima describes their sketch as “Fencing is life.” “As it is lockdown outside but professionally we people are not locked and have kept ourselves engaged,” said Ms Jamwal adding that the regular training sessions twice in a day (morning-evening) are polishing not only her as a coach but the trainee fencers as well. “Continuing with the training sessions even during lockdown was concepted to be in routine and secondly to stay committed no matters whatever the situation is,” she added further saying that regular online sessions by experts being organised by the Sports Authority of India and Fencing Association of India (FAI) are helpig a lot in getting more skilled and the information is further being shared among the trainees.
