After months of silence, Hurriyat (M )starts murmuring India-Pakistan relations | Mayndaki Ko Zukaam! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 17: After months of silence since the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, the Hurriyat Conference (M) led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has started murmuring about India-Pakistan relations when the world is fighting Covid19. One of the senior leaders of the Hurriyat (M), Abdul Gani Bhat, who is seen among the most moderate voices in the amalgam, has said that Pakistan and India are two nuclear-armed countries of the south Asian region and tension between them can take an ugly turn. This is being seen as the first major statement from any Hurriyat leader since the abrogation of the special status. Sources said through this statement the Hurriyat (M) wants to “tests waters” to see how New Delhi reacts and that if it could lead to any further arrests of the separatist leaders. “This statement has been issued after consensus within the Hurriyat to give a test dose and see how the government reacts,” said a source close to the Hurriyat. Sources said initially the Hurriyat (M) looks ahead to issue statements through leaders like Bhat and wait to see if there’s any “adverse reaction from the side of the government.” It was reliably learnt from sources that the Hurriyat has been facing pressure from Pakistan not be silent but start issuing statements on Kashmir to keep the pot boiling. Sources said their masters in Pakistan have questioned the silence of the Hurriyat leaders and thus want them to get active on the ground and that this statement was the step forward in that particular direction. Abdul Ghani Bhat in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the challenges posed to the humanity across the world by coronavirus pandemic are getting worse. He said in view of the prevailing global political situation, the relations between Pakistan and India are of vital importance. “Why would anyone issue statement on India Pakistan relations in the times of Covid-19 pandemic. Let’s read between the lines,” asked a political observer. Despite repeated attempts, Bhat couldn’t be contacted for comments. |
