SRINAGAR, May 17: The death toll in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir due to Corona Virus reached 13 today as a young lady of Habba Kadal area died at the Chest Diseases Hospital, Drugjan-Dalgate. At the same time 62 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported today in the union territory. Reports said that Jammu & Kashmir recorded 13th Corona Virus death today as a lady of Habba Kadal area died at Chest Disease Hospital. The 29 years old lady tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday and was admitted at the CD hospital. She was admitted as a case of septic shock at SMHS Srinagar. Following this she was put on ventilator at Surgical ICU in critical condition on Friday and was later shifted to CD hospital after her reports came positive and today she breathed her last. This was fifth COVID-19 death in Srinagar followed by Baramulla with three deaths, Bandipora, Budgam, Anantnag, Udhampur and Jammu with a death each. In the meantime, 62 fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported from different districts of Jammu & Kashmir today. While Kulgam reported 28 fresh cases, 15 such cases came up from Anantnag district. Jammu district reported six fresh cases, Ramban five cases, Samba two cases while as Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian, Udhampur, Kathua and Poonch reporting one case each. The Jammu & Kashmir government informed through media bulletin that 62 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 16 from Jammu division and 46 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir to 1183. Also one COVID-19 patient died today at Chest Disease Hospital, Srinagar. Out of 1183 positive cases, 595 are active positive, 575 have recovered and 13 have died. Moreover, 33 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 80,934 test results available, 79,751 samples have tested as negative till May 17, 2020. Additionally, till date 1,11,368 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 29,442 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 105 in hospital quarantine, 595 in hospital isolation and 15,425 under home surveillance. Besides, 65,788 persons have completed their surveillance period. The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 177 positive cases, with 141 active positive, 35 recovered, one death; Srinagar has 157 positive cases with 56 active positive, 96 recovered, five deaths; Kulgam has 147 positive cases, with 138 active positive and nine recoveries and Bandipora has 135 positive cases with nine active positive, 125 recovered, one death. “Baramulla has 118 positive cases with 35 active positive, 80 recovered, three deaths; Shopian has 108 positive cases with 33 active positive, 75 recovered; Kupwara has 97 positive cases with 49 active positive, 48 recovered; Budgam has 57 positive cases, with 28 active positive, 28 recovered cases and one death; Ganderbal has 23 positive cases with nine active cases and 14 recoveries and Pulwama reported 16 positive cases with 11 active positive, five recovered,” said the bulletin. The bulletin said that Jammu has 45 positive cases with 17 active positive cases, 27 recoveries and one death; Udhampur has 25 positive cases with five active positive case, 19 recovered and one death; Samba has 13 positive cases with seven active positive and six recoveries and Rajouri has five positive cases with one active positive case and four recovered. “Kathua has 32 positive cases with 31 active positive and one recovered; Kishtwar had only one positive case who has recovered; Ramban has 23 positive cases with 22 active positive and one recovered, Reasi has three positive cases with two active positive and one recovered and Poonch reported one positive case today,” said the bulletin. The bulletin, while describing spitting in public places as a public nuisance which spreads COVID-19 infection, has advised the people to quit chewing tobacco and pan masala for a safer and better health. The advisory has urged upon the people to maintain physical distance of at least 2 meters from others which is the best way to protect themselves against COVID-19 besides frequently cleaning your hands with an alcohol based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. |
